NanoTag Technology for the Retail Asset Theft Prevention.
Asset Theft Prevention is a big issue. Stores protect their merchandise by many different methods. Electronic article surveillance (EAS) tags, plastic clothing tags, store checkout alarm systems, CCTV, all designed to limit the amount of store theft.
Causes of retail theft are customer theft, shoplifting, organized retail crime, the main cause of Retail theft. $51 billion in 2011 represented 43.2% of total shrinkage.
Dishonest employees were responsible for $41 billion, 35% of total shrinkage.
Most retailers regarded employee theft as their greatest challenge and potentially their greatest loss area.
While these methods are intelligent means of protecting store items, the incidence of shrinkage continues to rise. Once the store security systems are breached and the items leave the store, they find their way onto various channels for disposal, markets, E-bay, etc. Police working with stores, find a great deal of stolen merchandise but there is no identifiers on the items to determine who actually owned the items in the first place.
Store stamping with NanoTags provide the covert and overt identifiers which when applied to store items, are virtually impossible to locate unless with the trained eye. Hundreds of thousands of dollars of employee stolen items have been recovered using the NanoTag store stamping system.
The NanoTags are personalised using the company logo and then a code depicting the store is etched onto the NanoTags. These are applied by various means and provide irrefutable proof of ownership.
